The Mazda5 mini-minivan is a true-to-its-name minivan with compact-yet-specious travel for small families in mind.
Additionally, under-seat storage in the second row seats can be accessed by folding the cushions forwards. The right-middle seat also offers a tilt-out basket.
The new Mazda5 sold as the Premacy in Japan gets Mazda’s Nagare inspired front fascia, which visually links it with the Mazda3 and Mazda6, as well as the refreshed Miata. Out back, the Mazda5 is a bit more conventional than its predecessor.
Although Mazda increased the price of the base model by nearly $1,500 compared to the previous generation, the newest model sports an updated exterior, interior and powertrain, with the changes being substantial enough to justify the modest price hike for a vehicle that is still a bargain compared to traditional minivans that no creeps well north of $40,000.
A 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine provides motivation for the new model; while the outgoing used a smaller 2.3-liter version of the engine.
Three trim packages are available, beginning with the entry-level Sport configuration. At $19,900, it includes alloy wheels, air conditioning, power accessories, cruise control and a six-speaker CD player.
